Motor Cycle Speeding
I have been riding motor cycles for 40 years and have never had a speeding fine or any other traffic infringement whilst riding.
During my driving/riding years I have travelled in excess of 2.5 million kilometers and still find it difficult to comprehend how any authority can place an arbitrary speed limit on any given section of road.To compound the problem we receive constant reminders of the impact of such arbitrary regulations in the form of continual police enforcement for minor infringements such as the issue of infringements for speed excesses of just 8 to 10 over the posted limit.
Well I can’t speak for all riders but in my case I find it extremely dangerous to be constantly looking down to monitor your speed every few seconds coupled with the simple fact that most modern day motor cycles have graduations on the speedometer which escalate in 20km intervals over a very short range of movement it becomes difficult to maintain a speed within a small range.
Does not seem to be too much of a problem until a police officer with a hand held or other form of speed detection device pings you at a specific moment in time when you happen to exceed the limit for a short period of time.
A very frustrating experience recently reminded me how we are all subjected to unnecessary stresses in modern society. A return journey of 500 kms to my home ended in a 20 minute debate discussing the very issue with a constable who was barely old enough to drive insisting that I was a danger to other road users as he checked my speed at 106kms/hr in a 100 zone. Life can deliver a good laugh. Thank god for grey hair !!!!!!!!!!!
